Before there was a road to follow, there was not even a place to stand.

Every kingdom keeps a story about its beginning. Most begin with a crown, a battle or a name cut into stone. This one begins earlier, when there was neither stone nor name, and the endless emptiness had never known the meaning of a beginning.

From that silence came Fardos, whose nature was to shape what did not yet exist. Beside him awakened a stranger mystery: Uman and Zathroth, two wills held within one immortal being. Uman sought understanding, patient enough to study the smallest possibility. Zathroth coveted dominion, and resented whatever his other half could achieve without him.

Fardos tried to give form to the emptiness. He fashioned brightness, then substance, then the faint suggestion of a living thing. The void accepted none of them. What had been shaped an instant before ceased to be as though it had never been imagined. His power was vast, but there was nowhere for his work to remain.

Uman joined the labour, searching for a law that might allow creation to endure. Their work became a conversation between determination and wisdom: one power reaching forward, the other asking why every step collapsed. Zathroth watched with growing irritation. He could destroy what little appeared, yet he could not create a lasting thing of his own.

Their failed efforts did not leave the void unchanged. A distant radiance gathered where wasted magic had once disappeared. It might have been drawn there from beyond existence; it might have been sleeping since eternity; it might have been born from the longing of the creators. None of the gods could tell.

The radiance took the form of Tibiasula, a goddess in whom opposing forces did not quarrel. Fire and stillness, movement and rest, depth and height existed within her without conflict. Fardos welcomed her with wonder. Uman recognised in her the answer to a question he had not yet learned to ask. Zathroth smiled as well, but the darkness behind that smile remained his own.

Thus the first gathering of powers was complete. The world had not yet been made, but already its future held three things: the desire to create, the need to understand, and the terrible possibility of betrayal.

An original Valdoria retelling inspired by the established creation mythology of Tibia. This text and its illustrations are newly created for Valdoria Next.
